The
"Medicine Wheel" cut, designed and cut by
gem cutter Larry Woods
uses a combination of different, precision, lapidary
techniques to produce gemstones of surprising brilliance
and beauty. The round shape, precise angles, and a high
faceted crown, combined with carved high polished grooves
on the pavilion, give these gems their unique optical
effect and appeal. This design placed first in the AGTAs
Cutting Edge competition, in 1991, combination cut category,
earning Larry his first Cutting Edge award.

The
Medicine Wheel design was inspired by the "Medicine Wheel"
symbol found in the spiritual beliefs of Native Americans.
The medicine wheel is a symbol for the circle of life and
the four directions of the natural world, north, east, south,
and west. This symbol also describes our journey through life,
and our connection to the journey of life everywhere. It reminds
us that we are not separate and outside of nature but an integral part of the whole. Everything around us
including, the animals, the plants, the rocks, and especially
the Earth Herself, is alive and aware, and deserving of our
love and respect.
These
unique, hand cut gemstones reflect these ideals, in their
magical play of color and light. A marriage of fine gem cutting,
and fine natural gem materials from around the world.
